A Heart for Others

One day I picked up my daughter, Mackenzie, from school. Instead of taking her straight home, I took her to my her favorite place, Dunkin Donuts. She would get a donut and I would get an iced coffee.

The drive thru line is moving veeeeery sloooowly. I look inside and it appears there is only 1 person working. I mention this to Mackenzie. After a few more minutes of waiting in line, she says….

• Mackenzie: If I was old enough to work, I’d want to work at this Dunkin Donuts.
• Me: So you could eat all the donuts, huh?
• Mackenzie: No, because there’s only 1 person working and they need help. I want to help them.

She has such a heart for others! It was a proud dad moment.

The take aways?

• Don’t assume peoples’ motivations. Unless you ask directly, you are likely to be wrong.
• Never underestimate the impact that a heart for others can have on the world.
• I am so proud of my daughter!
